Mozambique 40 Years of Independence

Guido Massucco, Mozambique’s honorary consul, has promoted some initiatives in his jurisdiction area on the occasion of Mozambique’s 40 Years of Independence (June 25th, 1975): the twinning of Torino and Maputo and an itinerant exhibit called “inconTRA ART – Mozambique 40 Years of Independence”.

The idea for “inconTRAART” originated from an encounter after Mozambique’s first national participation to the 56th edition of Venice Biennale.

Like Plato said, an encounter is a fundamental moment in which one looks at the other and sees oneself reflected in them: it means looking, and being looked at. Art makes encounters possible, because it allows a connection, a frontal looking at each other which is not to be taken for granted in everyday life, where an encounter may cause oppression and conflict.

The collaboration of the exhibit with Paratissima will trigger international collaborations. Among the artists: Mário Macilau, (in the photography section), Malè (works provided/allowed by the African Art Gate association), Gonçalo Mabunda (works provided from Shop Saman).
Curator of the project: Paola Simona Tesio.
