Fucina des artistas – CUBA

Within the broad context of contemporary Cuban painting, Fucina des Artistas proposes ZOOM IN, a journey through the works of four young artists, each with a distinct expressive identity.

Alejandro Gomez, explores the idea of the individual: nestled in a mass, in a collective, the artist investigates shared interests and builds a social portrait from the sum of various individualities. The work conveys the tension inherent between the whole and its parts. Gomez’s pictorial language, though highly gestural, also reveals photographic accents.

Daniel Collazo manipulates architectural icons, placing them in other dimensions which are often surreal. Architecture becomes the main protagonist and forces us to go beyond the actions of the subject which has been omitted: the human being.

Eric Alfaro is dedicated to landscape, which has its own particular character within the Cuban artistic tradition. Alfaro, however, approaches landscape as an opportunity for introspection, allowing his paintings to be translated as emotional expressions. Rather than faithfully reproducing reality, his bold brush strokes merely suggest it, resulting in images which evoke the infinite.

Completing our journey is artist Nelson Jalil whose work focuses on everyday objects. He rereads the aesthetic simplicity of these objects, evoking the relationship between the individual and their environment.

This collection of Cuban paintings addresses universal themes and proposes itself as art of the world – it rejects stereotypes and, without artifice, focuses on the relationship of the individual to some core values of existence: being, living, building and creating.
